2022 was bad year for Adidas. No that's not correct.
2022 was a very bad year for Adidas, that's the true statement.

 

So let's review some of the bad news:

 

• The sportswear giant ended its Yeezy partnership, The Company warned last month that it faces a $1.3 billion earnings wipeout after cutting ties with Ye.

 

• Declining sales in China - sales hit by a boycott in China after Adidas and several other western brands sought to distance themselves from the Xinjiang's labor camps.

 

• Nike's recent surge- Adidas's market share is being squeezed by its old rival Nike.

 

• The earnings wipeout raises the risk that Adidas will fail to pay back bondholders, according to S&P credit analysts.

 

• Adidas shareholders will also receive lower dividends as the Yeezy fiasco hammers profitability.

 

But Adidas is looking forward. They have a new CEO - Bjørn Gulden. Gulden, who formerly led Puma, said Adidas already has the “ingredients for success”.

 

Here are is plan for the Turnaround Strategy:

 

• Building on Adidas brand’s strengths in the marketplace, including its long-established roots in sports history, as well as its credibility in fashion and street culture built up over the last twenty years.

 

• Gulden sees an opportunity for Adidas to widen its offering to cover smaller sports. He said, “I think the DNA of Adidas has always been to develop products for all kinds of sports.

 

• Investing more in the outdoor category, consisting of footwear and apparel by Adidas, the company has positive momentum in this category, and is positioned well for continued growth.

 

• Adidas will also focus on the optimization of the business model that includes a focus on being more service-oriented toward wholesale.

 

• Adidas will become “much more local” to best cater to local tastes. He said, “The world is not becoming more central or global. It’s very, very hard to find products that are doing well in all the regions and all the markets.”

 

Overall we have to remember, that Adidas has a strong brand identity and a reputation for quality and innovation in the sports industry. Adidas has a strong presence in the global market, with a focus on innovation and sustainability.

 

The company's strong brand identity and commitment to quality make it a leader in the sports industry, and its continued investment in new technologies and sustainable practices position it for long-term success.

 

Year to date the stock is already up 17.3%, if the turnaround will work.
