On Wall Street this week, the key publication is the February employment report scheduled for release on Friday. Following an unexpected surge in last month's report, this time around, it is expected to indicate a slowdown in the labor market. The devil is in the details, however. While the ratio of job abundance to job scarcity still suggests a robust employment market, it may drive up wages. On the other hand, the decline in the number of resignations points to a deceleration in wage growth. Furthermore, the drop in open positions and the surge in layoffs may also be reflected in the employment report.
The upcoming report is expected to affect expectations regarding the Federal Reserve's policy. Currently, the market predicts a final interest rate of 5.5% as of March 2, with futures indicating a rise in interest rate expectations due to persistent inflation data. This contradicts the trend observed in January, which resulted in rate hikes in the stock market.
