After a difficult and confusing year, the investors are not looking for new strategy that will make 2023 a better performing year for them.
It is that time of the year, which investors are looking for a new strategy for 2023.
Very few investment categories generated a positive return in 2022. One area within equities that outperformed the broader market was stocks that had dividends associated with them. On of does strategies is the "Dogs of the Dow".
In 2022, the total return for the Dow Dogs equaled a positive 2.2% versus the Dow Jones Industrial Average return of -7.0% and the S&P 500 Index return, down -18.2%.
"Dogs of the Dow" is an investing strategy that aims to generate better returns than the Dow while also presenting lower risk than other stock-picking strategies. Using this strategy, one invests in the 10 highest-yielding stocks in the Dow Jones Industrial Average and then reallocates the portfolio annually to the new highest-yielding Dow stocks.
The term "dogs" refers to the strategy of looking for the highest-yield Dow stocks, which are typically the ones that are viewed as being out of favor with investors, or "in the doghouse."
It worked well in 2022. Maybe you should give the dogs of 2023 a chance.
